What I lived before accompanying others

My story

For a long time I thought life could be built by following a plan.

I had my family, plans, dreams and a path that seemed clear.

Until life changed the rules.

In 2015 I emigrated to Montreal with my husband and our children, looking for new opportunities. Almost two years later, my husband’s unexpected cancer diagnosis changed our plans completely. What had been a plan for our life became an experience of love, care, loss and rebuilding.

We went back to Colombia to live through it with our family and friends beside us. I had to learn to live a reality I had never chosen.

I learned to live with questions I had no answers to, to rebuild plans and to discover abilities I did not know I had either.

Writing, close conversations and the search for meaning became new ways of understanding what I had lived.

That experience also changed the way I relate to other people’s stories, and helped me find in them a shared path built on love, self-knowledge and the will to keep going, giving the best of yourself at every step.

A life in five turns

The turns, by date

I tell every milestone on this line in the first person. Nothing is summarised beyond what I said.

  1. 2015

We emigrated to Montreal with my husband and our two-and-a-half-year-old twins, looking for stability and a quiet life as a family.

  2. October 2016

The diagnosis: advanced pancreatic cancer. We went back to Colombia for his treatment and my profession became caregiver.

  3. Five months later

His passing. I decided to live the grief, to feel it, to hold it and to understand it, with my four-year-old children.

  4. March 2021

Las Vueltas de la Vida is born: a space for sharing real stories and honest conversations.

  5. Today

Company, the book and more than 150 conversations published on Las Vueltas de la Vida TV.

What came afterwards

Coming back to life is a path too

Little by little, I had to learn something harder:

Coming back to myself, to what makes me unique

That process led me to questions that still guide my work today:

What do we do when life does not answer the way we expected?
How do we find meaning when we lose the very thing our life was built around?
Can we choose again how we want to live after a loss?

I do not have all the answers. But I have learned that some questions can become paths.

Today I put my experience, my training and my voice at the service of those living through their own turns of life.
